Boondocking in New Mexico, Day 6, Bill Evans Wildlife Management Area

I left the Monticello BLM site just shy of 10AM this morning, having decided that since it would be heavily overcast over next couple of days with dropping temperatures, might as well move further south!

Almost as if saying goodbye, the sunrise I saw was pretty good:

I tried the Bear Canyon Wildlife Area and while there were "sites" available, it was populated with hunter types.  There was too much camouflage clothing in evidence for my liking so I passed on this site.  Not a bad little area but its geared for hunting/fishing, not really for trail riding.

Moving on towards Silver City, I ended up at the Bill Evans Wildlife Management Area around 3PM or so.  Better area, more "diverse" camping population that included wives and kids.  Mainly fishermen here trying their luck.  I initially selected a small secluded site near the other campers but it had no cell signal.

I went wandering around with the Sammy trying to find a cellular signal to check in with the family.  Found a spot next to the reservoir/lake created by the Bill Evans Dam that had good signal.  There was a fire ring there as well so I returned to the VRRV and displaced to the new site!

By 5PM I was all set up:

Given the amount of kids I saw, I'm thinking this must be Fall Break Season for New Mexico schools.  It's of course hunting season as well given the amount of hunters I've seen the last few days.  I didn't expect to see this many people camping on a weekday you see....

Nice quiet spot you found. The fisherman left leaving you all alone?

Well, CCjon, I was definitely alone on this side of the lake, but there were campers on the other side, still it was all good.
