Umarang was our oldest son's idea for a name....along the lines of boomerang, she'd make sure the Ural would always return home (one way or the other).
So began our adventures in Glamping, or Glamorous Camping as there's no other way to describe using a motorhome as a camping habitat.
For the record, using Uma as a camper, has ruined yours truly for camping via tents!
Our first camping trip was a shakedown trip, in a KOA campground near Wellington, CO. Everything went well and all things augured well for continued glamping.
Over the last year, we've explored camping in private campgrounds, state parks and even boondocked on public lands a few times. All had their pluses and minuses but none were to be avoided in future travels.

Glamping allowed us to meet with friends: RichardM and his lovely wife Bridget as they themselves were glamping their way through the Western US in a shakedown cruise of their travel trailer. We met with them twice, once at Mueller State Park in Colorado and the other at a campground near the BMW MOA National Rally in Salt Lake City, UT.
Yes, there was a learning curve with living in a motorhome, both in hot and cold weather. There was stuff to buy to make things easier or more comfortable, more maintenance tasks to monitor and perform, but both Martha and I are really enjoying this type of travel.
Uma tows one of my Ural sidecar rigs, either Scarlett: 2014 Patrol or Fiona: '99 Patrol with a '84 Beemer engine. She makes the interstate miles between destinations go by in comfort as opposed to battling winds and weather while riding the Ural at Ural speeds in busy highways.
Uma proved herself a worthy URRV (Ural Recovery RV) when Scarlett's engine seized (bad crankshaft bearing) in Austin, TX and brought Scarlett home with very little fuss.

Finally, Martha has been tracking the days we camp with Umarang, and she's saying it is 63 days this past year. Not too bad, let's see if we can do better this coming year.

I was 76 days in ours, RichardM a few more. No one has ever called me lovely before, thanks! We won't be in ours that long in 2018, but we are already looking forward to the next trip in fall of 2018.

I certainly enjoyed your Glamping experience, Dom, and find it a great combination of traveling comfortably long distance, and riding when adventure calls. Plus you get your wife to tag along. I find this a very good arrangement. Looking forward to see you top 63 days on the road next year!
63 days! That's good amount of time. We really enjoyed the camping (glamping?) trips. And, I have to agree that is much preferable to tent camping...
Thanks Bridget, I think Richard went 89 if I recall correctly....had to be back in AK before 90 days apparently. Looking forward to RV'ing with you two again.
SonjaM, it's working out pretty good, the Umarang/Trailer combo....we'll see what the second year of glamping brings....

Dom, what a great way to travel. Though I'm still happily mixing tent sleeping with staying in our minivan, your rig looks like a great way to really be "away".
I'd say go for 126 days next season!!
I should clarify that total is since we bought her, so some nights were from 2016. She's been the perfect addition to our fleet. Thank you Hubby for indulging my whim...

Hey, I have the same URAL T-shirt that Richard is wearing. Just no URAL.
I've been harboring a secret whim to buy an RV for a long time. If Kim would voice said whim we would have one. Someday perhaps. But it does seem the perfect way to travel slow and see the country.
Not sure if the whim is something best left a whim. Like getting a horse. Or a boat. Or a URAL...
It definitely works for you and Martha. Will there be winter glamping??
Steve Williams, thanks for the comments....we really like glamping and yes, there has been and there will be Winter glamping. The idea is to do glamping at least once a month.
