T-Dub'ing to Cerro Colorado in the BANWR

 Wednesday, February 8

After a couple of cold and windy days, it was time to ride to nearby hills which looked interesting; and for which we wanted to establish positive identification.

Lori Z., riding their TW200 and yours truly on Yagi, my TW200 rode out close to 10:30 AM and headed for Trail 241 off of AZ Hwy 286.  The dirt trails weren't bad in terms of rocks and ruts but we kept the speed down to no more than 20 MPH.

It was about ten miles from the highway and we were on Batamote Road.  We found the offshoot trail shown on Google Maps and we got a bit closer to the base of the rocky hills.

Shortly though, we encountered some pretty rocky/rutted washes.  Lori Z. decided to at this point.  She'd wait for me there, shoot some aerial drone video and I would see how close I could get.

I didn't much much issue with the obstacles, which were a bit technical, and finally got to a fence line.

I crossed the fence line at the "gate" and managed to get pretty close to what turned out to be Saucito Springs according to a USGS map, and the three water tanks located nearby.

Once I parked Yagi just shy of the last hill before the trail ended on top of a hill. I walked up to the top and shot these closeups of the rock formations.

This is the hill that I elected to walk up rather than ride Yagi up it, all the loose rock chips at the summit made walking up/down the hill tricky, so riding up wasn't an option for me today.

A view of the northern part of the hills which turned out to be named Cerro Colorado.  Cerro is Spanish for Hill.

Pictures done, I rode back the way I came and soon I was back at the gate:

I rendezvoused with Lori and we headed back the way we came.  Lori had shot drone video while I was gone, and she also shot video of us riding back.

I saw the video title on YouTube and thought it was an old video frame m when you were back home in Colorado.

Nice job on the drone video. Looks like you are getting the hang of it. The rock formations are really cool.

RichardM, quite coincidental wouldn't you say....

Thanks Oz, Lori is definitely getting better at flying the drone for sure! The Cerro Colorado rock formations are definitely very cool and stand out in this area.
