Back near Bullhead City, AZ - Detoxing from our Side Trip to California's Bay Area

 Tuesday, November 7

We left Thing One at the Oakland airport around 9:15 AM for a 1:00 PM flight back to Colorado. Yes, it was a lot of waiting for him at the airport but we were trying to flee the state and especially the Bay Area.

We made it to Nevada border at 5:20 PM and after loosing an hour after crossing into Arizona (the state doesn't follow Daylight Saving Time), were checked into a Days Inn and finished dinner at local black bear by 8:12 PM.

Happiness was California in the rear view mirror
photo take at some trashed out, abandoned highway
exit where we switched drivers.

Long day of driving to be sure but we were out of the overcrowded conditions and back where we felt better.

Wednesday, November 8

It was a restless night at the Days Inn, we paid the price for booking cheap lodgings!  That was a mistake but we were too tired.

We picked up Uma, the VRRV, with no issues and headed to the Katherine Landing Campground that within the Lake Mead National Recreation Area.

After much heartache we decided to bite the bullet and camp where originally planned at the Katherine Landing's South Campground despite it being fuller than I had figured.

Turns out it was the wise choice, there's a laundry room and showers! The site I got is mostly surrounded by tall Oleander bushes so somewhat secluded.

While Martha did a load of laundry, I replaced the blade and base seals on the Thetford Aqua Magic V High Model of toilet in the VRRV. P/N 31708. Easy though messy job, went through three pairs of rubber gloves!

I went for a drive in the late afternoon while Martha rested in the VRRV.  We are both tired due to the California trip and hopefully we'll feel better tomorrow.

Martha had located Bulls Head Rock on Google Maps, since the nearby town of Bullhead City took its name from it I believe, I wanted to see it.

It was a short drive to the Davis Dam and Power Plant, run by the Bureau of Reclamation.  It was very windy today, you can even see the whitecaps in the lake's waves!

From about midpoint of the dam, that is Bulls
Head Rock just to the right of the camera tower

A closer look

Walking back to the car, I took these shots of the power plant, I liked the geometric shapes and symmetries.

More exploring tomorrow, hopefully, even though the current high wind advisory will still be in effect.  It's part of the major front that is causing all kinds of weather warnings across the country.

Here's a drone video of Bulls Head Rock.   I don't see a Bulls Head but it does give you more than enough views of the rock.  Apparently, most of the rock formation is now submerged due to the Davis Dam.

Someone has a really vivid imagination to see a bulls head in that rock. And nice to escape from the Bay Area. That’s a pretty long drive…

Yeah, RichardM, I don't see it even in the historical pictures. Those guys must have been drinking when they named it.

Agreed, special imagination involved in that naming.

Am sure you are enjoying the peace and quiet of AZ again. Don't ernvy you at all for having to swap your a toilet seal.
Bullhead might have been named for the bison skull found there back when...?

Enjoy your time in AZ. Staying there until Spring?
