March's First Sunset

Winter is nearing its end, with Spring rolling in in less than three weeks.  Sigh.

Scarlett is in the shop with clutch issues.  Sigh, I trailered her there this morning.  Hoping to get her back before the next snow fall.

Enter Brigitta, my '87 R80 Airhead Beemer to my riding rescue!

The clouds were looking promising around 5:00 PM so I rode out on Brigitta to a spot near where I usually pose Scarlett for sunset shots.  Lately, it's been crowded with cagers also seeking to see the sunset so I picked this other spot instead.

80 pictures taken, narrowed down to these nine, I hope you like one or more:

Sunsets in Colorado are awesome. Great photos. It is nice to have a backup bike.

Thanks Thomas Osburn, and yes, its good to have a backup motorcycle. (Sorry, I don't call motorcycles, bikes). Now, to get a spare sidecar rig....

1,4,and 8 are my favorites, and it was nearly impossible to decide! I think 4 is my #1 fav. I love the how the sunligt highlights the mountains in the background. Gorgeous when blown up to size.

thanks Bluekat/Kari....I should run a poll next time. :)

I like #4 as it highlights the sunset with the Beemer as a prop.

Spare sidecar rig, eh? That new Indian that Claude built looks great though it might be larger than your car...

Glad you liked them RichardM...#4 seems to be taking the lead.

As to spare sidecar, I think I'd keep it a URAL, if nothing else for parts interchange where possible.

Or just have a spare driveline on the shelf. Swapping an engine could be done in a day. Maybe go in with others in the area for a spare engine, transmission and final drive...

RichardM, not a bad idea at that! Of course, EFI engines are different from Carburetted engines....

"EFI engines are different from Carburetted engines...."

But the engine, clutch, transmission, final drive are all interchangeable. It's just the stuff hanging onto the engine that changed. I'm replacing some of the older parts with current model bits and pieces since I think that they've improved. E.g. pushrods, clutch components. I already picked up the new timing cover with the spin on filter. And It looks like I already had the improved crank. I don't know if the ignition system

Yep you are correct in that most parts are interchangeable. I'd rather go the spare rig route though, something ridable right now. Oh, and collect components I suppose for easy swap-in as you mention. Don't see rigs being parted out often, or perhaps, not looking in the right places.

You'll like the spin on oil filter, much less of a mess and it's a real filter.

The tricky part is finding a used rig that's 2010 or later.

Very nice photos as usual Dom. I admire your patience with the Ural. Richard too.

If the trend keeps up though, you both may end up with a deeper understanding of why Russians consume so much vodka.

I can't really speak for RichardM as to knowing why Russians are known to like their vodka, but yeah, sometimes it helps to drink. Darn things really are simple and straightforward to work on though, just wish they were more robust....though they really have come a long way.
