Among other things, that episode of mechanical reliability issues ignited thoughts which resulted in my acquiring Vikki and soon afterwards, mounting a Dauntless Sidecar onto her.
Today, it was blazing hot and sunny here in the Denver Metro area and I got my riding in early in the form of a run to the hardware store, with Martha sitting in the hack. Got some materials for some chores at home and a couple of U-bolts that would help me secure a highway peg onto Vikki's subframe, on the left side of the tug.
I can rest my left leg on long rides with the above peg, I use the forward A-Arm
on the sidecar mounts for my right leg.
A Datel voltmeter, to monitor charging and voltage levels on
the tug's battery. I have about 145 watts to play with after the tug's needs
are taken care of.
Finally, in expectations of long stretches of straight super slab riding on
the way to Montana's NW corner, a Go Cruise Throttle Control
I got the 7/8" version, clipped it on nice and simple and so far it's working great.

All farkle installed, chores done around the garage, now just waiting for the heat of the day to die down towards evening for perhaps a sunset ride.

Looks like you are going to have fun. I love having a throttle lock I picked up one of these http://www.motorcyclegear.com/parts/accessories/cruise_controls/sound_off_recreational/vista_cruise_motorcycle_cruise_control.html years ago for $5. Wouldn't leave home without it. Looking forward to the pics of the trip.

Charlie6: the only thing I could not get installed was the highway pegs. With the GiVi bars they are too high and most pegs fit onto the skid plate which I didn't want to buy. otherwise my bike is now highway ready

I cannot tell you how jealous I am of this ride you are taking to Montana... And that you will be meeting Bobskoot is simply the icing on the cake. I am surprised that you are taking the V-Strm hack righ. I would have thought this trip perfect for the two-wheeed Beemer. Are you taking your wife, or just using the hacj for extra storage, or just fulfilling a desire to do this ride on three wheels?
I think you did a nice job of installing the voltmeter. I have one still in the box, in the garage. The same as yours, in fact. It was my thought to mount it flush with the K75's dash. But the dash is a thick block of rubber, of varying thickness. It really complicates a simple installation. My next thought was to mount the voltmeter, and an ambient temperature gage, on the fiberglass dash of th Scout fairing. But again, this is not a simple installation.
Maybe next year. I am looking forward to the pictures and your ride report from Montana.

Jack: Ja, the beemer would have done the trip no sweat, but wanted to "prove out" the V-Strom sidecar rig in terms of long distance riding. Not to mention, any "iffy" trails I find, I just ride on in....
Hmmm, a temperature gauge, that will be next I think. I really like the Datel voltmeter though it's readout is washed out in direct sunlight....no matter though, just hold your hand to block the sun for a second or so it takes to see the reading.
