SLC RV Trip - Day 2: Provo, UT

We woke early at the James Robb State Park campground and were on the road by 7:30AM.  The day was already warm and sunny.

We made good time to Green River where we filled Uma the URRV up with gas, and getting about 9 MPG.

We stopped again just shy of Soldier Summit along US 191 for lunch and discovered the onboard generator wasn't working.  Hmmmm.  I thought perhaps it was lack of oil as it looked low so we carried on towards Provo to get some more oil, 10W30.

Arriving at the Lakeside RV Park where we'll be till Wednesday, a quick check revealed oil levels to be OK.  Then out of the corner of the eye, I saw a drop of oil fall from the air filter cover!  Hmmmm.  I removed the cover and perhaps one or two tablespoons of oil fell out!

The air filter didn't seem compromised but not taking chances, will replace it as the generator ran fine without it for a few minutes as I was checking it out.  I'll get a replacement air filter in town and I think a replacement reed valve/pcv valve as Onan generators are apparently known for this.  Sigh.

But it's OK, the RV park we're in is full hookups and we're sitting in the hot afternoon, shaded by trees, the AC blasting and waiting for the evening's coolness.

6:30 PM came and it was still quite warm in the Utah Valley as we rode Fiona, my '99 Bural, towards Squaw Peak Overlook.  Google reported it as a nice spot to view the sunset and see the Provo and Orem.

That's Utah Lake in the background, our RV camp is
near it's eastern edge on the Provo side.

Sunsetwx got it wrong again, though reporting most of Utah with a red sunset potential, the incoming rains precluded a nice sunset picture for us this time.
A small cloud burst of rain to the north of Utah Lake

Still hoping for sunset pics, we endured two small rain showers which cooled things off considerably.  Alas, no parting of the clouds so we decided to leave around 8:40PM.

Wouldn't you know it, Fiona wouldn't start.  Dammit.  Some troubleshooting later, and it was a battery ground cable not making good contact.  I'd moved it recently you see, to acommodate a Harley Davidson Police Motorcycle seat.

Temporary fix done by shifting the cable enough for it to make contact with bare metal and off we went.

Made it home by 10PM, the streets of Provo and Orem were nice and quiet with very little traffic.

SLC RV Trip - Day 1: Visiting the Halls

Off we go on another RV Glamping trip, this time with Fiona, my '99 Bural in tow.

We headed west on the I-70 slab, leaving the traffic cesspool that is Denver behind us not soon enough.

We got to Glenwood Springs, CO where Martha had arranged, on an impromptu basis, a visit with Caitlin, her husband Eric and their lovely daughter Elaine.  Caitlin's mom, our neighbord: Donna was also visiting so it was a chance to catch up with her as well.

Both Caitlin and Eric are Pediatricians and are starting work at a practice in Glenwood Springs soon.  Caitlin used to babysit for our boys, back in the day, now she is a Doctor!

the I-70 super slab

We got to Glenwood Springs at 3PM and to Caitlin and Eric's home soon after that.

Here's Elaine (Laine) with her grandmother Donna,
our neighbor back home.

Laine was so cute, she just jumped got right into the
sidecar and said "Ready, Ready!"  A ride was promised
to her in a future visit to their home.

Around 5PM, we left Caitlin, Eric, Donna and Laine to their Saturday evening and we motored onwards towards the vicinity of Palisade, CO to the James Robb Island Acres State Park along the Colorado River.

We settled into a pull-through site with electricity and promptly got the AC running as it was hot and humid at this campground!

No wi-fi and cell coverage without a booster was -99dBm 3G and -108dBm LTE which translates to roughly two bars.  Either way, internet access was spotty and slow at best.  Just too many folks over too small a pipe I think.

A long day for the both of us on the road, we went to bed early and woke to this nice view of the canyon wall to the south of the camp ground:

More to follow as we head into Utah.

Meeting a new fellow Uralista

Today I finally met in person, a Uralista who'd been told of me by his client.  Dr. Vladislav Twerskoi, DDS is the dentist to Andrey Smirnov, my Russian friend from when I rode my '96 Ural Sportsman: Natasha.

Small world eh, even smaller in that Vladislav or Vlad lives just 11 minutes from my home!

He rides a 2007 Ural Patrol that he bought new, I believe that I saw him back in 2009 when I was riding around on Natasha.  Weird huh.

Anyways, our schedules finally matched up for a quick meetup and ride to catch tonight's sunset at my usual spot.

We chatted about sidecars, got UDF'ed by a fellow who has a R75 Beemer with a Ural sidecar (being worked on at present) and he told me of his family and life story, all very interesting stuff I must say.  He spent many years in Berlin, back when the Cold War was still going on.  He was a young boy in Israel during the Yom Kippur War, which started just months after his family had moved to Israel.

Anyways, he's been looking for fellow Uralisti to ride with, so we'll see about getting him involved with future rides.

 Our rigs during tonight's sunset.

Here's Vlad and his 2007 Ural Patrol, he got the white striping because
it matched the paint/striping of his father's rig back in Odessa I believe.

Here's a couple of pics taken by Vlad with his Android phone:
