Created by prison labor I read somewhere, it is laid astride a hogback ridge next to the town itself.
All paved, but a bit narrow, it's a one-way road which one can take to enjoy the scenery or to dare the fates as the edges of the road are quite near.
It's a nice little road to ride when in the area; whether visiting the state's prison museum or a few miles down the road, the Royal Gorge Bridge.
US Highway 50 goes right by Skyline Drive if one is crossing the state in a more sedate manner than the super slab known as I-70 further to the north of the state.

That does look like a cool road, Dom. Yet I can't imagine whyit was built--prisoner busywork maybe?...
I wouldn't be surprised Ry Austin, since the road doesn't fill much function in terms of providing access to/from the city.
Thanks for taking me down your memory lane, Dom. I am realising now for the first time that this is a one-way lane... before I was always wondering how oncoming traffic would have to be managed.
You're welcome SonjaM, two way traffic on this road would make things way too interesting....I probably wasn't clear on that fact before when writing about this road.
Although such a cool looking road with stunning views, I think it might scare the bejesus out of me to ride it.
I think you'd do fine Trobairitz, you and Troubadour could ride your motos side by side, the road is wide enough for that....
