Now in New Mexico, Day 1

I drove perhaps halfway or so to Elephant Butte, NM today, taking the I-25 Super Slab and towing the Sammy to its new home.

Stopped in the early afternoon in the camping area of the Maxwell National Wildlife Refuge and rested away the rest of the day.

Had the camping area all to myself, heck I'm pretty sure I had the whole NWR to myself as it was the end of the Labor Day Weekend and everyone had returned home to their jobs and such.

Parked by the small lake bordered by a road called 13 Lake, so I assume the lake formed by a small dam bears the same name.  Otherwise, it's pretty much treeless prairie with copse of trees here and there.

Tomorrow, Elephant Butte, NM and the Sammy's new home.

I am not sure how much I would enjoy camping where there are no trees. I like sleeping in my hammock a lot. Hope you have a pleasant and problem-free trip.

Thanks Oz but plans have been overcome by events.
